Southeastern Healthcare Preparedness Region (SHPR) is comprised of regional healthcare partners such as hospitals, EMS, public health, emergency management, public safety and other healthcare entities with the purpose of enhancing the ability of the region to be more resilient in a disaster. The Healthcare Coalition provides a forum for all partners who have a role in healthcare disaster planning, response, or mitigation to plan together and facilitate the planning initiatives as determined by the Steering Committee.
The activities of the Healthcare Coalition are based upon the regional needs, the Healthcare Preparedness Capabilities developed by ASPR, and the North Carolina Office of EMS guidance. All initiatives are funded through the ASPR Healthcare Preparedness Grant and through in kind support from regional partners.
When a disaster or emergency occurs, the Southeastern Healthcare Preparedness Region shifts from preparedness to response mode. SHPR can assist partners within the coalition in partnership with county emergency management and may assist statewide under the guidance of the North Carolina Office of EMS information sharing situational awareness, resource request fulfullment, and supplemental staffing are the primary forms of assistance provided. Coalition members are requested to participate in the response as needed and as available.
